erase and install

After following the instructions at xlab, I decided to start over from scratch to make abso-positively sure that the issue is what I think it is. Given that we have a wide open long weekend, I have the time to work on it, and with the change in jobs and some of my volunteer things, I don't have anything "mission critical" on this machine any more - it's surfing, podcasting and et cetera.

So far so good. I'm posting from Safari after the install and two mega Software Updates and reboots. Next come the applications, and then the files that I backed up prior to the reboot. Diving back into install mode...
