revenge of the worms

The boys are back in town.

Many long-time readers of patrickandlydia.com will remember our first posting about the worm suicide cult at our house. Well, they're back. We've had our first big rain of the spring and the insane little creatures are heading for dry land again.

The issue is the sliding glass door. Evidently, there's enough room there for a worm to squeeze through in the track. Our neighbor doesn't have the same problem that we do, because she has a real door on the back of her house. There are just a bunch of worms on her back porch. I think she tells them to go try next door, because I picked up no fewer than ten this morning on our kitchen floor.

If you have any suggestions to prevent this daily influx of Aporrectodea tuberculata*, please post or email us. Google is no help, and no one that I've talked to about it seems to have any tips.

*Just guessing on the genus...

I am trying Kosher salt on the door ledge this weekend. Those invertebrates don't have a chance. Wahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!

Our version of this: the little wrigglers congregate along our garage door. Apparently these guys can hold on - for a minute or two - as I had the unpleasant experience of having a few drop from the raised door onto my head as I was sweeping their earth-bound compatriots away from the ledge. Great way to start off a Monday morning...
